MY FRIENDS ARE INCREDIBLE

What pray tell are these gorgeous vistas pictured above and what traveling/environmental/photographic whiz is responsible for such awesome photographs?

These mountainous shots are of Patagonia and were taken by my amazing friend Annie.  She's been traveling all over South America for the last several months and has some great photos (here) and cool stories (here) to show for it.  I can pretty much guarantee your enjoyment (and possibly some added awe/travel jealousy).

I am thinking about starting to keep a binder full of design ideas . . . amongst these inspirational pages will be one dedicated to vintage cameras.  I think it would be really cool to have a shelf chock full of these vintage Etsy finds--all priced between $15 and $35!  Since I already have an S-60 polaroid and two 35 mm cameras I think my collection is already started off on the right foot!

My roommate is a big cupcake fan so I am always on the look out for cool confectionary decor.  Bake It Pretty has such awesome stuff that I am tempted to through a cupcake party.  Wouldn't it be fun to have a cupcake decorating birthday party?   I know it sounds like something for a five year old, but I am pretty sure you could come up with some really awesome designs . . .

JAPANESE MASKING TAPE: YUMMY!

I really really really like this Japanese Masking Tape made by the Kamoi Company.  

Too bad it is sold out at Design Within Reach.  I guess I will have to keep checking back . . . 

ADDICTIVE

This is a really addicting "memory" game where you flip over and match Switzerland themed cards.  I look the graphic look of the chosen icons; it is also funny to see what the designer thinks is characteristically "swiss" (like is wrestling a big swiss thing?  Or archery?  Clearly I am out of the loop).

BUBBLES, BUBBLES, MY BUBBLES!

(That was a Finding Nemo reference, in case you didn't get it and are beginning to think I am going crazy.)

I think these letterpress notecards are pretty sweet.  Featured in the lovely Etsy shop ThePaperApartment, you can get 6 hand-cut cards and matching envelopes for $14.  Definitely going on my wishlist.

HOW FAIR IS BOSTON BEING TO FAIREY?

It seems that the famous graffiti artist Shepard Fairey (his claims to fame of late: designing the infamous Obama Hope poster, being featured on the tv network USA as a "Character to Watch" and being the feature artist of a large ICA show in Boston) is rubbing the Boston bourgeois the wrong way.  Remembering tags created nearly ten years ago, it seems that so many Boston residents complained about the welcome this "criminal" (since graffiti is still a crime) was receiving in accordance with the opening of his ICA show.  It apparently was so overwhelming that the Boston police arrested Fairey for an outstanding warrant from 2000 for a graffiti crime that carried a fine of all of $100.

So what do you think?  Should he been held accountable for his tags or should the boston police be spending more time solving violent crimes, stopping drunk drivers and avoiding the Boston snobbery in Back Bay and Brookline?  Drop me a comment or read more about the issue at the boston.com article here.

THEIR EYES ARE WATCHING GOD

The public artist JR has just completed an amazing project: posting roofs and trains in the slums of Kibera, Kenya with beautiful black and white portraits of eyes.  Can you imagine how happy it would make people to walk by these photo murals everyday?  Gorgeous!
