I love to read. My idea of a perfect afternoon involves a hammock, dappled sunshine, and a delicious novel. Clearly, summertime is rife with "perfect afternoon" possibilities . . .
To celebrate those possibilities I am starting a new little series called "On My Bedside Table" through which I share some of my favorite recent reads. Hope you like them!
Written by a Williams professor (always a plus!), this collection of short stories is lovely to dip in and out of when I need a break from my current fiction fling. Settling into narratives situated everywhere from Chernobyl to Connecticut, this book is ideal for those with literary ADD. And it was a National Book Award Finalist! Get it here for roughly $16.
Really who doesn't love Tin Tin? When I am having a bad day (or am just between books) I delight myself in the glory of these brilliantly illustrated panels. Intermittently available here as well.
I have to admit that what preliminarily attracted me to this series was the intelligent and colorful cover design (each novel in this series about San Francisco line up to create a hand-drawn street-focused panorama), but now am happy to report that the writing easily lived up to the cover design. I am a sucker for series that follow a set of characters over time - Maupin's work will definitely keep me busy for the summer. Recommended here (I love them!) but available more easily here.
